AN ISSUE OF MCAM DEVOTED TO MEN? Why not? I certainly never made a conscious choice to feature only the work of female artists on the cover of this magazine, yet until this issue none of our covers have featured work by male artists. Mostly it’s a reflection of the smaller proportion of male artists who work with metal clay. Over the past 10 years though I'm happy to have seen an increasing number embrace it.
The range of work in this issue is staggering! Terry Kovalcik demonstrates carving, Patrik Kusek makes a Mystic Pendant, and there are the sculpted projects by Waldo Iɫowiecki and Zahario. I guess it’s the “potter” in me that makes me love hand-building with metal clay.
Marco Fleseri discusses the divide between the metalsmithing and metal clay worlds, and his essay makes fascinating reading, as is the insight into the lives of Gordon Uyehara and Kenji von Achen.
Bill Struve has graciously endured my unending questions about 3D printers and base metal clays, and I am excited that there will be more to come from him in the future as well.
From our studios to yours, we wish you a very happy and creative 2014!
